OUR HISTORY
The Omni Tanker technology was born in the mind of Bill Rodgers, engineer, inventor and problem solver. Inspired by reports of serious ill health suffered by RAAF servicemen who had worked on the deseal/reseal program for fuel tanks on the F-111 tactical attack aircraft, Bill imagined a solution involving a highly resistant fuel tank made from lightweight and structural composite materials.
As a mechanical engineer, Bill’s involvement with composite materials dated back to the 1950’s when he travelled to the UK and worked with British Racing Engineering with the newly emerging fibreglass materials. As a mechanical engineer, his passion for the lightweight and strength characteristics of fibre reinforced polymers has been lifelong.
Bill returned to Australia in the early 1960’s to form his own company, and spent his life as an engineer and inventor, designing and constructing plant and equipment from composite materials. Through his working life, he filed and held 6 separate patents, and developed a number of industry changing innovations.
In 2005, Bill completed a major engineering innovation in composite transport equipment with the design, development, prototyping and ultimately production manufacture process for a fibreglass truck mounted concrete agitator barrel. The technology was licensed by a major US equipment manufacturer.
At age 78 most people would have retired. But engineering, and most of all innovation, was not a job for Bill. It was a passion. It was what he loved, and it occupied his mind and drove him to continue to innovate. In 2006, Bill convinced his long-time friend and colleague, Brian MacNaughton to do it all again. And the Omni Tanker project began. Almost two years of intensive research and development followed, to finally emerge with a now patented composite materials technology which is now changing the game in liquid transport tanks.
